To assist jewellery exporters from India, an apex body was established - Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). In this blog, understand the process to register with the council and its role in the industry’s export trade.
Contributing about 14% to India’s overall merchandise exports, the gem and jewellery industry is growing with increasing demand from international customers and markets1. Owing to its growth potential and the opportunities offered to local sellers, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) was established. With over 7,000 members, the council promotes jewellery exports from India and also ensures that the industry functions smoothly2.

Participate and get exposure in global trade fairs
As a part of GJEPC’s key role to promote India’s jewellery industry, the council organizes trade shows including IIJS Premiere and IIJS Signature and enables Indian jewellery exporters to participate in international fairs. These events give its members opportunity to directly interact with customers and explore international marketplaces for exports. GJEPC also undertakes image-building exercises through advertisements. Additionally, the council also conducts workshops, awards and design shows.
Get insurance and other benefits
Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council supports its members and their employees with various beneficial schemes and policies including insurance and medi-claim schemes. For gems and jewellery workers who are not directly employed by any organization, Parichay card is given to validate their identity.
Get important certifications and assistance
From RCMC (Registration-cum-Membership Certificate) and Kimberly process certification to Export Performance Certificate/Turnover Certificate, GJEPC helps members obtain these documents and certificates for smooth jewellery export from India. Other important permissions like visa recommendation and exhibition permissions can also be availed by being the members of the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council.
Access to market insights and updates
GJEPC members get access to latest business insights and updates in the industry. This helps exporters understand new market research and change in guidelines of export and government procedures about jewellery export.
Access to training and lab services from experts
The export promotion council for gems and jewellery offers assistance for its members to upgrade their manufacturing processes and optimize technology. Professionals from Gemmological Institute of India (GII) and similar testing laboratories help exporters understand manufacturing skills, technical and design excellence. GJEPC also runs training institutes that impart manufacturing skills, technical and design excellence in six cities – Mumbai, New Delhi, Surat, Jaipur, Varanasi and Udupi.
Co-ordination between government and agencies
GJEPC facilitates interaction on trade-related issues between the industry and the Government of India. It discusses relevant export-related issues with the Government, ministries, regulatory authorities and agencies.
How to register with GJEPC?
1. Open the GJEPC website and click on Registration.
2. Fill out the registration form and submit it.
3. After the registration on the GJEPC website, you will receive an email with credentials.
4. Now, go to the website and click on membership.
5. Head to application and click on new membership.
6. Use the email credentials to log in.
7. Fill the details to apply for membership. Once you’ve filled the form, you will be taken to the payment gateway.
8. Pay the required fees.

Documents required to register with GJEPC
● Associate membership application form
● RCMC application form
● Signature slip from the business owner attested by a banker
● Challan form signed by the business owner
● Self-attested copy of the IEC (Import Export Code), PAN, UAN registration, GST certificate, passport and Aadhaar card of the owner of the business.
Apart from the above-mentioned documents, the council may have other regulations for membership. After the submission of all these identity documents, the process is completed and the membership is issued.
