ICEGATE, which stands for Indian Customs EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) gateway, is the national portal of the Indian Customs of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). It is a government website that allows exporters, cargo service providers and others associated with exports and customs department to file documents electronically.

The main motive behind launching ICEGATE is to provide a way to collect indirect taxes and administer cross-border controls to increase voluntary compliance through ICEGATE payment. ICEGATE is a part of the Indian Customs department that offers varied services including e-filing of Bill of Entry (import goods declaration), shipping bills (export goods declaration), e-payment of customs duty, facility to file online supporting documents and end-to-end electronic IGST refund1.

Documents required to register with ICEGATE

Procedure to register with ICEGATE

To initiate registration, an exporter first needs to login to the ICEGATE website. Once logged in, follow the below-mentioned steps4:
  • Enter the ICEGATE and email-id options to check availability.
  • Select the user role (customs broker, airline, shipping agent, etc).
  • Enter IEC and verify. The details of the exporter will be exported from the ICES.
  • Select the photo ID and upload the same.
  • Upload digital certificate and click the confirm button.
  • An OTP will be sent to the registered email-id, upon submission of which the registration will be completed.
  • After the registration process is done, exporters will have to wait for their registration request to be approved by the department.

Exporters can check the status of BOE and shipping bills by following these steps10:

Step 1:

Log in to the website of ICEGATE using your credentials.

Step 2:

Select ‘Job Status Link’ from the list of available services.

Step 3:

Now, select the appropriate document type from the menu on the left.

For Bill of Entry:

Click on ‘Bill of Entry’, select the appropriate location and submit. The details (job number, job date, customs location number, stages of BOE) of all Bills of Entry filed from the selected location in the last 24 hours are visible.

For shipping bills:

Click on ‘Shipping Bills’, select the appropriate location, and submit the details. The details (job number, job date, customs location number, stages of bills) of all shipping bills filed from the selected location in the last 24 hours are visible.
