Full Container Load (FCL): Meaning and definition

In international shipping, a Full Container Load (FCL) is when an entire container is set aside for use by a single shipper. Contrary to Less than Container Load (LCL), your shipment will not be combined with those of other customers. This makes ocean shipping safer and less complicated. In Full Container Load (FCL) shipments, the entire container space, regardless of its size (commonly 20 feet or 40 feet), is dedicated to a single party’s cargo, loaded with goods from one shipper and delivered to one consignee without any sharing or mixing of cargo.

FCL offers many advantages, including reduced risk of damage or loss, as the goods remain intact within the container throughout the journey. It also provides more control over the shipping process and allows for efficient loading and unloading at the origin and destination.
