An Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is an identification code granted by DGFT that is mandatory for import and export businesses in India. This is a 10-digit code with a lifetime validity for businesses that want to export from India or import to India. If it is not updated, IEC can be deactivated till further update process has been initiated by the holder. The exporter may not be able to avail benefits from DGFT under different schemes.

• Registered email address and phone number for OTP

How to link IEC with DGFT?

An exporter can update IEC with DGFT registration on the official website by following these steps:

• Log on to the DGFT website and start your registration process. If already registered, you can directly login.
• Click on ‘link IEC’ button displayed on the home page.
• Enter your 10-digit IEC number.
• Authenticate the code through Aadhar-based OTP verification or using your registered DSC.

Once the IEC has been linked, exporter can view a) IEC details, b) modify IEC profile and c) print IEC certificate. Exporters can also benefit from various schemes and policies offered by DGFT and other Export Promotion Councils.
