What is Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)?

Directorate General of Foreign Trade, also known as DGFT, is the licensing authority for exporters, importers and export and import businesses in India. Exporters, importers, and businesses that do both exporting and importing in India must obtain licenses from the DGFT. It's a government agency whose job is to develop and carry out trade policy abroad. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is responsible for implementing policies and regulations, issuing export licenses, introducing novel trade incentives, and fostering positive relations with foreign trading partners to boost national economic growth.
