ICEGATE stands for Indian Customs EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) gateway. It is the national portal of the Indian Customs of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The ICEGATE portal allows exporters, cargo service providers and others associated with the exports and customs department to file documents electronically.

Step-by-step procedure to register on ICEGATE portal

Here is a broad overview of the steps you need to follow to initiate ICEGATE registration:

Step 1:

Navigate to the ICEGATE website and click on the ‘login/sign up’ button.5

Step 2:

If you are registering for the first time, click on ‘Fresh Registration – Don’t have Reference ID’.

Step 3:

Select the user role (e.g., importer/exporter, customs broker, airline, shipping agent, etc.).

Step 4:

Enter valid IEC and GSTIN numbers. Your details will be exported from the ICES.

Step 5:

Verify your phone number and email address through OTP verification.

Step 6:

After OTP verification is complete, you will receive a Reference ID along with its expiry date.
You will need to use this Reference ID to complete the role registration process on ICEGATE. If you don’t complete this before your Reference ID expires, you will have to perform the above steps again to generate a Reference ID.

Once you have your unique Reference ID, you can proceed to the role registration form on ICEGATE. Here is a broad overview of the process:

Step 1:

Visit the ICEGATE portal and click on the ‘Register’ option under ‘Login/Sign up’.

Step 2:

Select ‘Continue using Reference ID’. You will be prompted to enter your Reference ID to check its validity.

Step 3:

Fill the role registration form with accurate details about your business and its authorized user.

Step 4:

Upload required documents.

Step 5:

Submit the application. Upon successful submission, your application will be forwarded to the ICEGATE approving authorities for review.

If you want to use a different email or phone number, you must first update your contact details with GSTN or DGFT before starting your ICEGATE registration.
