Carpet weavers from Warangal found online success with Amazon

Weavers from Warangal sell dhurries directly to their cusomers through Amazon
A dhurrie or the cotton floor covering is a kind of carpet, woven across many corporation funded handlooms in and around Warangal, Telangana. Its origin, as mentioned by the weavers, dates back to the time when the Mughals had first entered the Indian sub-continent.

Over the years, the number of weavers across the city have increased. However, the profit margins haven’t improved. To help these weavers and uplift their living standards, many corporations have tried to look for ways to reach out to more customers without having to go through the distributers.

In 2017, April, Amazon reached out to these corporations and weaving societies to help them set up their businesses on the global marketplace. Today, over 22 corporations and weaving societies have registered their business on Amazon and sell directly to their customers keeping enough profit margins for themselves. Around 18 weavers have set up their own selling accounts and seek assistance from nearby Internet Café’s when they receive an order to help update the customer and take print outs of invoices.

As Dusshera approaches, they are hopeful and are stocking up for their Amazon customers exclusively.
