What is listing?

To start selling on Amazon international marketplaces, you first need to list and upload products on Amazon. You can either match an existing product listing (if somebody else is already selling the same product on Amazon), or create a new listing (if you are the first or only seller).

To list your product, you need to have your product SKU details (e.g. Barcode, UPC, EAN) and in some cases, product information (features, model number, size, expiry date, etc).

How to create a new product listing?

If your product is not listed on Amazon, you will need to create a new listing, so that customers can find all the relevant information about it. When you list a product on any of the Amazon international marketplaces, it automatically generates an ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number).

Following the best practices on how to add products on Amazon can have a big impact on the success of your export business. As a seller, you can make it easy for eshoppers to find your offers by adding descriptive titles, clear images, and concise feature bullets to your products.

This is what a product detail page looks like on Amazon:

1.
Product title
A concise description of the product (approx 200 characters).
2.
Product images
Clear photographs of the product that show as much detail as possible. Images should be at least 500x500 pixels in size, although 1000x1000 pixels is recommended when you want your product to be viewed in detail.
3.
Variations
Products that vary by color, scent, or size can be listed as variations.
4.
Bullet points
Bullet points briefly list the top product features and catch the customer’s interest.
5.
Featured offer ("Buy Box")
The featured offer on a detail page. Customers can either click on “Add to Cart” or “Buy Now”
6.
Other offers
The same product sold by multiple sellers offering a different price, shipping options, etc.
7.
Product description
The product description provides detailed information about the product. Optimize using keywords that someone looking for your product might enter in the Search field. You can provide several search terms.

Amazon trivia:

ASIN

ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number and is a 10-character that is generated automatically. It is an alphanumeric identifier that helps with product identification from the catalog. But if you are creating a new listing, your product will automatically be given a new unique ASIN.
Adding a new offer - Search for your product

How to search and match products?

If the product you want to sell is already listed on Amazon international marketplaces, all you have to do is select the product, add the price at which you want to sell the product, and the number of units that you want to sell. This is ideal for sellers who have few products (less than 50-100) to list per month.
Adding a new offer - Bulk Product Upload

How to list your products in bulk?

Sellers using a Professional seller account have the option of listing their products in large batches using bulk uploading or inventory management. If you want to sell your products in bulk (100-1,000 products), you can upload products under two categories - a new product on Amazon or an already existing Amazon product.
Adding a new offer - Scan product barcode

How to list products that do not have barcode/UPC/EAN?

Amazon uses product IDs to identify the exact item being sold. If you match a listing, you won’t need to provide a product ID since it already exists. If you’re adding a product that’s new to Amazon, you may need to purchase a UPC code or request an exemption.

If the product you sell does not have a barcode or a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), you can request a GTIN exemption to sell your products on Amazon international marketplaces. Once we have reviewed and approved your application, you will be able to list your products.

Amazon trivia:

GTIN

Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is an identifier for trade items. It is used to get product information in a database, often by entering the number through a barcode scanner pointed at an actual product, which may belong to a retailer, manufacturer, collector, researcher, or other entity.

UPC

UPC stands for Universal Product Code, which is a barcode that is used in many countries including the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for tracking trade items in stores. It consists of 12 numeric digits that are uniquely assigned to each trade item. You can get a UPC code directly from GS1, or request an exemption.

EAN

The European Article Number (EAN or also known as International Article Number) is a standard describing a barcode and numbering system used in global trade to identify specific retail product type, in a specific packaging configuration, from a specific manufacturer.
